1.

Guava red flesh IIHR variety seedlings should be made available at KVK Sandhiyur for propagation
Demonstration of red flesh guava variety Arka Rashmi has been allotted during this year (FLD 2017-18) and supply order has been placed  for purchase. The scientist in charge  from IIHR has informed that at present the seedlings of Arka Rashmi guava variety is not available and instead of that the seedlings of Arka Kiran is available which is  in the same characteristics (pink fleshed) , suitable for table purpose. Permission has been requested to ICAR - ATARI through proper channel to purchase Arka Kiran variety which will be propagated and maintained in KVK farm to made available for farmers.

2.

Demonstration of VAM may be conducted to manage Banana wilt
Application of VAM is recommended in the demonstration on management of Erwinia rot or tip over disease in tissue banana for higher productivity, in FLD during 2017-18.

3.

Pulses harvester mainly for green gram may be introduced in Salem district through KVK, Sandhiyur
In 2016-17, demonstration on pulse harvesting for green gram was done using paddy combine harvester in Thumbathulipatti, Puthu road and Vellalagundam villages for 50 farmers in 5 ha under cluster FLD programme on 02.09.2017, 10.09.2017 and 17.09.2017 respectively.

4.

Outcome of the training programme should be studied and documented for further scale up
In each training programme feedback was collected from the participants before and after the training and documented for further scale up.

5.

Effective linkage between farmers, department and KVK may be further strengthened
All KVK programmes are being conducted in coordination with line departments like agriculture, horticulture, agricultural engineering, animal husbandry, forestry, sericulture, and NABARD, Lead bank (Indian bank). All OFT, FLD programmes, action plan are prepared in discussion with the Extension officials of concerned blocks and the programmes are conducted in coordination with them.  The details of the important programmes are as follows

6.

Coconut Parasitoid and other crop parasitoid may be developed at KVK, Sandhiyur
Theparasitoid, Acerophagus papayae is mass multiplied and supplied to the farmers for the management of papaya mealy bug in tapioca. From Jun 2016 to Oct 2017, 4800 numbers of parasitoid were released in tapioca fields.

7.

Machinery for Groundnut cultivation especially harvester and sowing machine may be promoted

  • During 2016-17 in all the blocks of Salem district ground nut sowing was done widely through tractor drawn seed drill.
  • The OFT on Assessment of drought tolerant ground nut varieties was conducted in the year 2016-17 at Idapadi block. In this, harvesting was done through harvester and the feedback of the farmers received as that   slight modification is required for better operation of this harvester.

8.

Technology for inducing flowers in hi-density guava orchard may be promoted
The available technology for flower induction in all fruit crops is use of NAA @ 40 ppm (planofix) or nitrobenzene (Boom flower) and can be recommended for inducing flowers in hi-density guava orchard ( consulted with Department of Crop Physiology, TNAU, Coimbatore).

9.

Guava Seminar may be organized at KVK, Sandhiyur
Seminar will be organized during the month of November, 2017 (consulted with DDH, Salem).

10.

Banana fiber extraction technology may be demonstrated
Training will be organised with help of NRCB, Trichy.

Training on Agro forestry, intercrop in forest unit may be organized at KVK, Sandhiyur
Training will be organized during the month of February, 2018(consulted with Forestry department).

12.

Agro forestry based model may be promoted in Salem district
Agro forestry model consisting of Teak with Nerium was promoted in Panamarathupatty village.

13.

Weed management technology may be promoted in Minor Millet crops cultivation

  • Weed management technology was promoted by adapting line sowing, which facilitates easy weeding operations. This technology is adopted   in cumbu CO10 OFT farmer’s field in 2016-17 at Vellalakundam village, Vazhapadi block.
  • Line sowing and weeding though wheel hoe in between rows was done in OFT on Assessment of suitable samai varieties for tribal tracts of Salem distirct.

14.

Soil and Water conservation technology may be included in all the training programme
Soil and water conservation training was organized along with agricultural department officials on 22.06.2017 at Kalpaganur; 17.07.2017 at Mettupatti and  09.08.2017 at Vedapatti. In this training KVK scientists insisted the farmers to construct farm ponds under MGNRES schemes, construction of check dams and their uses, growing of vetiver in field bunds,  ploughing across the field, cover cropping and catch crops, chisel ploughing techniques and methods for using Pusa hydrogel for improving the water holding capacity of the soil.  On 5th December 2016 world soil day programme  was conducted at KVK Sandhiyur and 236 farmers participated.       

15.

Micro Irrigation workshop may be organized at Salem
Water management and micro irrigation technologies workshop was conducted at Puttur Agraharam village on 05.10.2017. In this programme, soil, plant and water relationship, nutrient fertigation for agricultural and horticultural crops, design, layout, operation, maintenance and economics of drip irrigation and construction of farm ponds were explained to 60 farmers and farm women.

16.

Regular Radio Message especially on horticulture crops may be sent to AIR, Trichy

  • Monthly messages on pest and diseases outbreak, forecasting, technology tips are being sent to AIR.
  • Messages on importance of seed treatment, nutrition aspects, cultivation of crops suitable to particular season, pest and disease forecasting and animal husbandry were sent to All India Radio for the benefit of the farming community.

17.

Tribal development programmes may be implemented with help of ICAR institutes

  • Under SBGF scheme, trainings on millet cultivation and value addition were given on 28.02.2017 and 09.08.2017 to tribal people of Kalvarayan and Shervorayan hills.
  • Millet processing equipments (Destoner, Dehuller, pulverizer, packaging machines and paddy processing) were given to tribal people of Yercaud by the Seed Centre, TNAU combined with KVK, Salem on 28.03.2017.
  • Packaging equipment and market outlets under SBGF are going to be established in tribal areas for mass popularization in Salem District.
  • FLD on Demonstration of pepper production and marketing is being conducted during this year 2017-18 at Yercaud for 10 farmers.
  • FLD on Demonstration of Cumbu CO 10 for higher productivity conducted on Peddanaickenpalayam block for tribal development.
  • SBGF scheme on promoting bee keeping technologies was submitted and awaiting for the sanction which will improve the livelihood of karumandurai tribal women of Salem district.

18.

Marketable traditional paddy varieties may be promoted or marketable crops / technology should be promoted

  • Traditional paddy growing farmer Th. Senthil Kumar, Kalpaganur, Attur block is promoted by KVK, Salem. He attended all the workshops, seminar and exhibitions with 24 traditional paddy varieties and KVK also linked the other farmers who are in need of traditional paddy varieties.
  • Other newly released varieties in minor millets (sorghum K12, ragi CO15, kuthiraivalli CO2), tapioca (Yethapur 1 and Athulya), turmeric( IISR Pragati, CO 2)  and vegetables ( Dolichous lab lab CO (GB)14, Arka suvidha french bean, multi cut coriander) were promoted through FLDs and trainings.
  • Bio control agents viz., Trichoderma viride, Pseudomonas fluorescens and Acerophagus papaya, azolla, vermicompost and crop boosters are promoted among farmers of Salem.
  • Twelve trainings on value addition on minor millets, fruits and vegetables and milk products were given to 130 participants including farmers, SHGs, unemployed youth and NABARD groups.
  • In 2016-17, to prevent drought conditions, rain gun operation, spraying of PPFM technologies were promoted in cluster FLD (pulses- 2.5 hectares) and tomato (4 hecatres) in an area of involving  FLD farmers in mecheri, omalur and Idapadi blocks.

19.

Pepper pulping technologies and harvesting ladder may be promoted especially at tribal tracks of Salem district
FLD on Demonstration of pepper production and marketing is being conducted during this year (2017-18) at Yercaud, purchase of equipment (  pepper thresher )is under progress.

20.

Fodder crops seeds and seedlings may be promoted through KVK Sales centre

  • For sustainable fodder production Cumbu Napier hybrid (CO 4) fodder slips and guinea grass rooted slips are sold through KVK sale centre. Till now 1680 numbers of CO 4 fodder slips and 2400 numbers of guinea grass rooted slips were sold..
  • Efforts are in progress to purchase fodder seeds from Department of forage crops, TNAU, Coimbatore and to sell through KVK sales centre and also to produce multi cut sorghum seeds and hedge lucerne seeds in KVK farm.

21.

New proposal on need based training programmes may be sent to INSETI, Indian Bank
As per the discussion made with the INDSETI, Indian Bank is concentrating this year on dryland agriculture technologies in dry tracts of Namakkal district.

22.

Demonstration on Solar Drier may be organized
2016-17, solar drier is sanctioned by ICAR, ATARI for 4 lakhs  which is under construction which will be completed within a week. Farmers can use the dryer for dehydrating chillies, turmeric, banana, copra, tapioca, tomatoes, mangoes, moringa leaves, herbs and other vegetables and fruits in a glut season. Training and demonstrations will be given to the farmers, SHGs, unemployed youth etc and they use the facility on rental basis. Value added products will be produced in KVK using this solar drier.

23.

All new crop seed varieties and new technologies should be made available at KVK

  • Seed varieties like tomato, chilli, lab lab, cluster bean, small onion, greens, gourds are available in the KVK sales counter. Apart from that mango grafts (Alphonsa, Banganapalli, Salem Bangalora, Sendura, Bangalora, Imampasand, Mallika, Mulgoa) , guava layers (L49), Sapota (PKM 1)amla (NA 7) seedlings are also available.
  • All type of crop boosters like maize maxim, pulse wonder, Sugar cane booster, Arka vegetable special, mango booster, cottonplus,  ground nut rich, coconut tonic are also available in the KVK sales centre.
  • Bio control agents viz Trichoderma viride, Pseudomonas fluorescens , Acerophagus papaya, vermi compost, azolla, fodder grass slips are also available in the KVK farm.
  • Also new varieities released by the TNAU are also exhibited in the KVK premises.

24.

Cluster Villages should be linked with line departments and banks
Cluster FLD programmes on green gram and black gram during 2016-17 and 2017-18 are being conducted in coordination with line departments involving  JDA, DDH, AO and AAOs and other dept. officials in all the programmes conducted in cluster villages.
In 2016-17, under this programme green gram cultivated in 20 ha (50 demonstrations ) at Pudhu road and Vellalakundam clusters and  black gram  cultivated in 10 ha (25 demonstrations) at Melkalipatti cluster.

25.

Improve the productivity by comparing the yield gap, district average and potential yield in all FLD programmes.

Seed Production training programme may be organized for major food crops

  • Trainings were conducted on 15.06.2017; 22.06.2017 at Mecheri and 10.08.2017 at Kalpaganur.
  • In ASCI programme, training module for seed production technologies for seed growers was approved during this year (2017-18).
  • Seed hub programme has been  allotted during 2016-17 for 3 years. In this programme, a target of total production of 2500 quintals of black gram and green gram is allotted to KVK, Salem.
  • In this programme, it is planned to raise 30 hectares of each green gram and black gram and 8 hecatres of red gram during this year (2017-18). So far 1 hectare of green gram, 5 hectares of black gram  and 6 hectares of red gram has been raised at Mecheri and  Idapadi blocks.

27.

TNAU released new crops varieties may be cultivated as crop cafeteria in KVK Sandhiyur
Selected new crop varieties like CO 7 foxtail millet and Dolicuss lab lab CO (GB) 14   is raised in the KVK farm.  In pulses, Black gram (vamban 6) and Green gram (CO 8) is planned to cultivate in KVK. Apart from this, IIHR released Arka agni mari gold and IISR Pragati turmeric also raised in the KVK farm.

28.

Banana based value added products and solar drier based products may be promoted
Trainings on value addition of banana, especially banana fig will be given during the month of December 2017. Value addition of banana was given to 15 farmers and farm women on 24.07.2017 at Nalikalpatti village.
